I viewed Video Story Problems. I work with the students in Excel to create simple word problems for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I always use teacher and student names in my examples and try to make it relevant to what is going on in the real world. They have to create their own problems once we've done the group work lesson and I always encourage them to do the same. If we used video story problems I think not only would it make them more interested in the lesson but they would also get more out of it and it would expose them to another resource/tool in the video process!

The special interest group that I joined through MACUL was online learning.
The article that I chose was marked on the site as a "must read". It was titled 6 Scientifically Proven Brain Facts That eLearning Professionals Should Know by Christopher Pappas so of course I had to pick it to read! It was very interesting to learn that we actually cannot multi-task! It was proven scientifically that no one has the ability to multi-task which I think would come to a surprise to a lot of teachers. It also talks about how much more impactful images and multimedia presentations are at helping us remember information! Being a computer teacher I am constantly using images, and videos, and slideshows to present information so I am glad that I am already helping the students remember the information better than if it was just spoken to them or if they simply read it. My username for Twitter is lorihenderson80 and I am following #21Things4!
Below is the rubric that I made up for my students for their typing lessons. I grade them each day on the five typing techniques and participation in the lessons. I went over it today so they could see how I grade them and I think it helped them understand exactly what I'm looking for from them each day!
I have used both Prezi and Google Presentation so I decided to try out BlendSpace. How fun to have another presentation tool and one that is similar but has enough differences to make it interesting to the students who have seen a million slideshows in their day by teachers! I had the students view it when they came into class before we started on the lessons for the day. We reviewed everything once they were done and I explained that this was a resource that they would be able to use if they ever needed a refresher for our keyboarding skills. The students liked the set up of it and how one frame/slide explained what the next was going to be about but that they could see the whole thing before starting it up.
I think that this would fall under the augmentation area of the SAMR model. The students aren't creating anything on their own but they are viewing information in the different way using technology. Instead of just listening to a lecture or reading from a book or worksheet they are able to use the tool in place of that and also have interactive things like videos throughout it to guide them. PhotoPeach is just so much fun! I can see myself using this on a regular basis with my classes from now on! I'm not sure if this is okay or not but I used Shutterfly and uploaded some pictures of my daughter. If it needs to be educational I can change it so please just let me know! How fun that it allows you to create as many pages as you want on different topics and you can store and share with whomever you want! I thought it was only going to share the one photo but when I clicked share it had me create a whole site to share! Great website and I found very easy to use!
https://alexisannhenderson.shutterfly.com/ This is the avatar that I added to my homepage to introduce my website to the students! I always decorate for the holidays so I went with Mr. Valentine and then added the keyboard picture that I edited as the background! What fun this site is to play with! The students love it and they love that I change his voice from day to day, lol! I like the ReadWriteThink Notetaker.
Most of the students do not like taking paper and pen with them to each class (and a lot forgot or lose it along the way) so this is a great tool for them to be able to use! Whether it be for a lecture during class or when they are doing research for a project or new topic. I also really liked using the Quizlet website! What a fun way for the students to study and review! I especially like the scatter and space race options and the students love using them to practice! I also really like that there isn't an age restriction for sign up since not all of the students that I teach are 13 and older. |
